For those of you following our journey over the last year, it’s been really important for us to focus on building our own AI tools. We’ve learned a lot about what users need from our initial frameworks, leading us to the initial launch of our own AI front end – Grimoire!
Grimoire is a privacy-focused, free, and open-source front end designed specifically for our community. We’ve designed Grimoire to function with multiple API providers such as Claude and GPT as opposed to one or the other. As always: your data will never be shared, sold, or logged by anyone here. All data exists between you and your API provider exclusively.
Let’s explore what Grimoire has to offer! Let’s bear in mind though that this is our initial alpha release. Development and upgrades will come quickly! The goal will be to replace current GPT and NAI branches with this singular front end.
The user interface is sleek and intuitive, allowing you to effortlessly navigate between the landing page, current chat, and settings. The left sidebar can be collapsed and expanded to optimize your screen space, ensuring a seamless experience on both mobile and desktop devices.
Creating and managing characters in Grimoire is a breeze. You can create new characters with detailed information such as name, instructions, reminders, initial messages, and even upload a unique avatar. For those who prefer a quick start, we’ve included a selection of pre-made starter characters that will be expanding over the week as we explore best practices with specific models.
The real magic unfolds in the chat view. Initiate a new chat thread with any of your characters and watch the conversation come to life. Grimoire harnesses the power of Claude and GPT models to generate dynamic responses that keep the interaction engaging. Rest assured, your chat history is securely stored in your browser database, allowing you to resume conversations seamlessly.
Grimoire offers efficient thread management, with each character having its dedicated thread for better organization. Switching between threads is effortless, and deleting a thread is just a click away.
Customize Grimoire to your preferences in the settings modal. Enter your API keys, modify your username, upload a distinctive avatar, and fine-tune the model settings to achieve the perfect balance for your conversations.
Privacy is paramount, and Grimoire takes it seriously. Your data is securely stored in a reliable Dexie database, which just means instead of coming to a server to harvest we shove it into your browser so no one can touch it! If you ever need a fresh start, simply use the purge feature to erase all your data instantly.
Sharing characters with others is a breeze in Grimoire. Generate a unique sharing link for your characters, and when someone clicks on it, the character is imported and ready to chat with!.
But that’s not all! We have an exciting lineup of features in development. Many of which already work and simply need to be translated for the new system. These include but aren’t limited to:
Image generation to enhance visual communication
An interface customization panel allowing users to manipulate and edit visuals on the site to their liking with no code experience needed
Expansion of the model list, incorporating NAI, Scale, Gemini, Grok, and more
Background images for threads
Integration of TTS for an immersive audio experience
Prompt-based features for roleplaying and gamification
Custom styles beyond the default dark mode to cater to individual preferences
Cost tracking to monitor API usage
Thread labels for enhanced organization
Extended/infinite memory system for seamless conversation continuity
Additional visual overhauls to elevate the user experience
